Press Release $NU Northeast Utilities
NH Crews Helped Residents in Connecticut and New Jersey
MANCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) has been honored for its successful efforts to help other utilities restore power following Superstorm Sandy.
The Edison Electric Institute's (EEI) Emergency Assistance Award was presented today to Northeast Utilities (NU), PSNH's parent company, in recognition of the extraordinary work by PSNH and other NU crews to restore electric service to other utility companies that had been disrupted by the severe weather conditions.
About 137,000 PSNH customers lost service due to the powerful remnants of Sandy on October 29. Once restoration work for their own customers was completed, PSNH crew members worked in both Connecticut and in New Jersey, assisting residents in areas that were extremely hard hit by the devastating hurricane.
"The assistance of crews from PSNH and other NU companies following Sandy was truly remarkable," said EEI President Tom Kuhn. "Working through the industry's mutual assistance program, the crews were essential in helping their fellow utility companies restore service. Importantly, the work of the crew members also shows their compassion in helping others in their time of need. I congratulate them."
"Restoring power safely and quickly to our customers in the wake of significant storms is a top priority," noted Gary Long, PSNH president and chief operating officer. "We have received assistance in the past from other utilities, and it was gratifying in this case to be able to return the favor."
The electric power industry's Emergency Assistance Award has been presented each year to EEI member electric utility companies since 1998. Northeast Utilities, including PSNH, was chosen by following an international nomination process, and the award was presented during EEI's winter meeting.
